Yesterday, my super wonderful hubster raided the garden and made spaghetti sauce to can. All the tomatoes, peppers, onions and garlic for the sauce were grown in our garden! I love that! This is the second batch he's done. We have almost 20 jars of sauce canned so far this summer!
School finally starts on Wednesday, and I think we are finally ready. Clothes are bought (how can kids grow so much in so little time??), supplies are supplied, lunch money has been doled out, forms have been filled. And the sure sign that school's almost here? The kids are acting up. Yep, every year, right before the first day of school, the nerves set in (OMG, what if Bailey isn't in my class? What if my teacher's mean?! What if I can't find my class?) and the kids loose their minds for two or three days. Not so much with the oldest one (who's going to be a senior this year. A SENIOR!!), but the younger two are in full blown crazy mode right now. Thankfully, it'll settle down after the first day.
I am somewhat looking forward to school starting at this point, just so I can start getting serious about organizing The 31 Days of Halloween. I've added a few things to this year and it's going to be so fun (at least I really hope so, lol!), but it is a lot of work. There has been a great response from people about donating items for giveaways. Thank you all so much! You will all be amazed at the wonders that have been created this year! So much fun! Sponsors can continue to sign up until September 15 - and donations do not have to be pagan or Halloween themed.
And there is still time to join in if you'd like to participate! Lots of room left for anyone who wants to participate in the Haunted Walking Tour (dress up your blog for Halloween, we'll come visit you!). And still room for guest bloggers who'd like to have their article posted here! Just submit an article based on Samhain or Halloween - just about anything goes!
Anyone who wants to participate or find out more, contact me here.
I've been working on a ton of things to share in October! If you read Food Network Magazine (and if you don't, you should! That mag ROCKS!) you might have seen the candy corn infused vodka idea. They made a drink that looks a little something like this:

(except with better photography and without the water drops that says they just washed the plastic martini glass that they found in the back of their cupboard).
If you don't get the magazine, I'll be sharing this recipe in October, along with some other cocktails that Mr.B. and I are creating (working them out is a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it!).
Shockingly, no giveaway this week! I know! What the heck?

I have never been able to pinpoint exactly what flavor Candy Corn actually is? But anything in Vodka is fine with me!
That spaghetti sauce looks amazing. And candy corn infused vodka?
Any witch's dream drink. :)
I'm really looking forward for the 31 Days of Halloween and still plan on decorating my blog for the special event, if all goes well.
Good luck to your kids on Wednesday!

Oh, I can't wait for that vodka recipe! It sounds delightful, and my boyfriend and I are both candy corn junkies.
I'm going to be the odd man out, here and say, UCK Candy Corn! :( Candy Corn isn't my favorite, but hopefully that drink tastes better than candy corn.:)
Can't wait until 31 Days of Halloween!
A man who cans pasta sauce? You lucky lucky girl ;)
I want to give a Halloween walking tour.
Your spaghetti sauce looks beautiful. My garden didn't yield enough tomatoes this summer to make any sauce for the winter. *sad face*
Mmm!! Candy corn vodka!
Very interesting...I'm gonna try that one out!
That looks yummy, water drops be damned! I might get my hands dirty when you share the recipe ;)
Hmm, I'm going to check out the rules for submitting article for Samhain. I would love to guest blog in such a lovely witchy house.
Oh, I forgot! I feel your pain on the difficulties of catching up when you follow so many blogs. I'm on the process of catching up as we speak and I think I pulled have my hair out ;(
Then again, the blogs I follow are so cool that it is all worth it!
The spaghetti sauce looks good! I've thought of trying to make my own, but just haven't done it.
Good luck with back to school!
The candy corn infusion is awesome!
For those who don't dig candy corn (LJ!) you could absolutely use some other type of candy. I'll have to try something else out (licorice?) and report back, lol!
Candy corn is my fav, so I can not wait to read the recipe...and after seeing all those fresh jars of sauce, I am totally having spaghetti tonight lol..thanks for the dinner idea!!
I'm glad you didn't mix the candy corn vodka and sketti sauce :) Both look good...separately though! Is it OK if I just toss down some vodka shooters with a handful of candy corn as a chaser?
mmm the candy corn vodka looks delicious!
Love the look of the spaghetti sauce, and being homegrown I'm sure it's the best!
Is it really bad when you read food network magazine while watching the food network? I'm hooked - but then I love everything about food. Your spaghetti sauce looks amazing. That's me wiping the drool a way.
We don't really "do" candy corn down here, so much so, that I don't even rightly know what it is, exactly...
But I'm up for a cocktail anyway! ;)
LOL @ your just washed plastic glass comment... you are a witch after my own heart...
xoxo
I recently have discovered a strawberry - vodka drink named Xuxu(i know!!!) and i am making all kinds of strawberry coctails yum!
By the way, i know what you mean about catching up with the blogs you follow. Today i spent one and a half hour just reading today's posts. But i loved every second of it!!! What can i say? I am addicted!
Send spaghetti sauce! My husband can't seem to locate the organic stuff in the commissary (it's there, you just have to look for it).
Hm. I don't tend to like the "girly" drinks, but I do like Chocolate Martinis, so maybe I'd like the Candy Corn Infused Vodka... We'll try it when you post the recipe!
Following blogs - I know. I have to check them each time I check my email!
candy corn vodka! Oh my! I was a candy corn many years ago for halloween and i love some vodka! ha it is me in a glass! yum yum!
And i love the food network mag, the show and all that network is. And he doesnt know it but guy fieri is my celebrity husband!
All of my tomatoes are still green. Hopefully they ripen before the end of the season and the squirrels quit snacking on them.
I am not sure that candy corn and vodka should be consumed at the same time. Isn't that a crime against nature?
No problems...I understand. Congrats for the kids getting back into school! I am getting so excited. I still need to make my giveaweay for you but the sun is setting earlier and those it is still hot...the hotness is cooler...LOL no I havent been drinking...Ok I had a double martini!!! HUGS
Candy corn vodka! That sounds yummy! Too bad I can't drink right now, you'll just have to enjoy one on my behalf!

I can't wiat to have my own garden, so I can make things like that :D Tell your oldest that senior years is awesome fun, and graduating is even better.
When I started reading your post title, I thought the candy corn vodka was combined with the spaghetti sauce (that might actually work!) :D
So happy to have found this blog! The sauce looks great, I'm about to do the same thing myself.
Just started getting the Food Network magazine, love it! I'll have to make this drink for my Halloween party!
that sounds nummy!
Your spaghetti sauce looks amazing! I am getting hungry just looking at it.
I will be back for the 31 Days of Halloween. We love Halloween here.
THAT is a serious looking drink. I like the water drops on the glass. Makes it look refreshing :)
I have been asking people what was "the" taste of Halloween other then pumpkin, it was candy corn that most people said. Then I'd asked if they thought candy corn vodka would taste good, It must because here it is via the Food Network. I'm going to have to make some.
CANDY CORN and Vodka? Sounds like my kind of drink! Looking forward to the recipe.
