Giveaway from Beauty Watcher!

CONTEST IS CLOSED

Just in time to get this hung on your Yule tree (or wherever you have need of a really cool decoration!) comes this giveaway from Beauty Watcher!  Keep it for yourself, or the artist will gift wrap it and send it to the person of your choice!

This decorative star, like others at Mairyann's Etsy shop, measures 3.5 inches and hangs from a black ribbon.  The edges are finished in copper, front and back  and is finished in beautiful rhinestone, bead and glitter touches.

The goddess featured on this particular star is Seshat, the female aspect of the god, Thoth.  A scribe to the Pharoah, Seshat is known as the "Mistress to the house of books", and looks over not only the library of the Gods, but also earthly libraries.  In her hands she holds a palm branch to bless the Pharaoh's reign with many years.

Gardening in November

Unless you're lucky enough to live somewhere tropical (or in the Southern Hemisphere, where spring is coming around!), November is not a big month for gardening.  However, there is a lot you can do to get your garden and your yard ready for next year.

  • Mulch: do it after the first frost, but before the first snow.  This will keep your plants from being completely damaged by freezing.  By waiting until after the first frost, you'll keep animals from nesting in the mulch.
  • Clean up: Remove your stakes, dispose of any string you were using in the garden, compost your annuals.
  • Paperwhites: If you start paperwhites in late November, they'll be flowering in time for Yule or Christmas.  Potting and forcing bulbs in doors now will give you a bit of cheer through the winter!
  • Hand tools: Now is the time to get them cleaned, repaired, blades sharpened and put away so they'll be ready for next spring.
  • Seeds: Order your seed catalogs now and start planning for next year!
  • Bird Feeders: Give them a good cleaning and get them filled up.
  • Hoses: Drain your garden hoses and store them for the winter.  Turn off your outside faucets before the first freeze.
  • Planters and Pots: Anything you aren't wintering over, give a good scrub and store. Dirty pots can spread disease to your new spring plantings.
  • Give one last offering to your land guardians or the fairy folk.  Ask them to look after your property through the cold months.
  • Consider putting a spirit house on your property.  Popular in some Asian countries, spirit houses are small houses that give shelter to your land guardians.
  • Check out your snow shovel.  If it needs replaced, do it now, before the first snow.
  • Stock up on salt for your front porch/stairs.
I'd also suggest stocking up on plenty of books to keep you busy through the winter!  I tend to hibernate the cold NJ winters away indoors, so I make the winters a time to learn new things!  Pick up a new form of divination, learn about a new pantheon, explore an form of energy healing or practice your psychic self defense.  And don't forget to get out at least 15 minutes a day in the sunlight to help stave off the winter blues!

Monday Mutterings

Oh, my poor, poor neglected blog!  Between trying to get writing projects in, illness, family and my local Pagan community, I've been so busy I haven't devoted near enough time to this page.

Now that some things are starting to be done and over with (in exchange for the business of the holiday season, lol) I'll be trying to get back to regular posting here.  I've also got plans for cleaning up a few pages and getting things better organized.  I'd also like to get back to creating things for my Etsy shop, which has also been neglected the last few months.  I've got a basket full of Voodudes™ who keep wondering when they'll be getting a new home and giving me the side-eye...

So what's been happening lately? Hmmm, well, we (Monmouth County Broom and Brew and the Jersey Shore Ghost Tours) had our awesome 2nd Annual Keyport Ghost Tour and Witch Walk on Oct. 22, with almost 50 participants showing up to take a tour of haunted Keyport, NJ in full witch gear.  That caused quite a stir as we were gathered to start the tour, lol!  Our group is already planning next year's tour to be bigger and better and have more activities.  We'll be announcing the date as soon as we get everything cleared with the town, so stay tuned so you can save the date!

I'm also thrilled to say that groups have been popping up all over the US based on the group I co-founded (two years ago this January!).  There are now Broom & Brews in 12 different states!  If you want to see if there's one near you, or see how to start one in your area, click here to go to the B&B blog!  There are links on how to start a group and a listing of all of the current groups.  I'm happy to answer any questions you might have on the subject.

Hope all is well with you!  Happy Monday!  Don't forget to vote tomorrow and that the full moon will be showing it's face on Thursday!!

My apologies to everyone for the delay in announcing winners!  I've been sick and down for the count with strep throat and bronchitis.  I'm finally starting to feel human again!

So the winners for last month's giveaways are......
