Because I have a few follwers and we discuss all number of topics (many controversial!) there have been times in the past where I've had to deal with trolls, hate speach, generally crabby people and actual threats of violence. I thought it might be handy to throw down some general rules of the board, so that everyone understands what will/will not be tolerated in comments on my blog.

Yes, I know, a lot of places just allow free-for-alls, but this is my blog, my rules, sorry. I like having a place where everyone can come and know they won't be verbally abused.  I also have a variety of folks who read, not just Pagans, so I request that if anyone has any religion bashing to do (of any religion), do it somewhere else.

If you feel your post was not approved in error email me privately and I'll both explain my point of view, and listen to your issue.

I reserve the right to add to/edit this list at any time.

Comment moderation is on.  The following issues will keep your post from being approved:

1. Ridiculously foul language. The occasional "a-hole" and what-not is tolerated, but really filthy language in a comment will keep it from being posted.  Sorry, but my mother (among others who just don't dig it) reads here, and I don't need her hitting me with her flip-flop over the language on my page.

2. Comments  in all caps or mostly caps. A word or two for emphasis will be acceptable, but if your ENTIRE POST LOOKS LIKE THIS IT'S NOT GOING TO END UP BEING APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Derogatory comments about another person taking part in a  discussion.

4. Spam.  Not only spam from companies, but also what I consider spam from other bloggers.  If you are commenting on a post about baking cupcakes and comment about the giveaway on your blog, your post about washing your dog, etc., it's probably not getting approved.  There have been times when people have tried to take advantage of the fact that I have quite a few followers by basically spamming my blog with their links, so you can thank them for this rule.

5. Bashing of large groups of people, religions, states, holidays etc.. No group is all bad (I don't tolerate Christian bashing), no area is full of hillbillies, etc..  I hate blanket statements about any group.  Just because I'm a Pagan does not mean that I share anyone's intense hatred for Christians, St. Patrick's Day, weevils, butterscotch candies or anything else.  Discussion does not equal ranting like a lunatic.

6. Comments that vocalize a threat against an individual or group.  If a comment mentions punching someone, setting someone on fire, running someone over with a car, or any other act of violence (not matter what that person did), it will not be approved.

7. Off-topic rants will not be approved.  If the discussion is pancakes and comment goes on for 5 paragraphs about how much the writer hates corn syrup with a focus on how any Pagan that uses it is a sell-out and we should all be celebrating Pagan Breakfast Awareness Day - yeah, that's not going to be approved.

8. Post that make comments that are blatantly untrue are not going to be approved.  If a comment is helping to spread a story that just can't be proven, or has already proven to be false, it might not be approved, depending on the nature of the story.

What I encourage in blog comments:
1. Spirited discussion on a topic.

2. Facts. Link to proof to back up your point of view are great (just comment about what the link is to when you post it).

3. The realization that sometimes I'm just playing "devil's advocate". I sometimes throw out different senarios within a discussion. Sometimes they are really my point of view, sometimes I'm just trying to make people stop and think or get the discussion moving again.

4. Have fun! There are great people here to be met, great issues to be debated. Play nice and we'll all get along.
